Wright “B” Flyer Inc. volunteer pilots Rich Stepler and Don Stroud performed a demonstration flight of their “Brown Bird” over Ft. Sam Houston’s MacArthur Parade Ground during the Centennial of Military Aviation event on March 2, 2010. Designed to look like a Wright “B” Flyer that was made of wood, cloth, cables and a Ford Model A engine, the Wright “B” Modified Flyer (seen) is metal framed with a modern Lycoming turbocharged engine and essential instrumentation and communication gear for regular test flights. Donated funds from the Daedalian Foundation paid for the shipping of this and it’s sister replica Wright “B” Flyer called “Yellow Bird (on parade ground below to the left) to San Antonio for the flyover, (U.S. Air Force photos/Lance Cheung)
