Ahh, for the days of “Papers please!” The TSA is being operated as if it is a rogue agency beyond the accountability of the people. Various “authorities”, “officials”, and “experts” have decided that your body, your most personal space, is now the business of the state. This is an outrage of unprecedented proportion, and our willingness to put up with these intrusions will shape the way our government interacts with us in the future.

Sadly, the KIAH reporter Steve Simon apologetically addresses the situation that led to the open palm frisking of his three year old: “There has to be some sacrifice..when it comes to security at the airport”, as the anchors chuckle at the ordeal. This is no laughing matter- it is about our dignity as human beings. As these horror stories filter into the news, the Transportation Security Administration continues to lie about their procedures of enhanced patdown, the nature of the full naked body scanners, their safety, and the ability to see passengers genitals and save their images.

TSA is a disgrace, and they must be disbanded! The country is going bankrupt, and if we want to cut spending, cancel all orders of the full body scanners!

I was waiting for a connecting flight to Vancouver the other day at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. It’s not exceptionally remarkable as far as large airports go. But hey, it has a bunch of Texas kitsch, and it’s named after Dubya’s daddy!

A fellow traveller is subjected to a random enhanced pat down on Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2010. This was just aweful to watch as this woman is violated. A TSA agent pats down every inch of her body including cupping her breasts and feeling in between her legs.

I’m going to be flying into Houston, TX and I need to rent a car. I know several states have different laws, some you have to be 25, some 21 some 24, and I was wondering if any go younger? The car is going to be in the name of the person I am traveling with and she is only 18. Does anyone know of a rental agency that allows 18 year olds to rent in Houston (preferably from IAH (Bush Intercontinental Airport)? Thank you for all your help! usually flights in this category cost around 300 or less, but now its 400 for the cheapest for a dec 18 - jan 2 flight. Why is it so costly now, and would I be better off waiting a bit to buy a ticket or just take the 400 one now. I’ve done this similar flight before for a 100 dollars less so I’m confused why it’s so expensive NOW.
just to add, the thing is i have flown this same time for about 4 yrs…with nowhere near the same fares. thats why i’m so confused. but i guess i’ll just watch and wait.

The reason why you’re seeing the prices increase for your specific dates is because you’re trying to fly during the busiest travel period of the year (the Christmas and New Years’ period). You will, in all likelihood, not be better off waiting to purchase your ticket — airlines realize that this is an extremely high-demand period and have little incentive to reduce prices.

Your best options right now are either to buy the ticket you want or see whether moving your travel dates a little will help. (I’d venture that the date that is causing your price to go high is the January 2 return date — a Sunday immediately following a holiday is usually very busy and more expensive. Moving that date to the 3rd, for example, might result in a lower fare.)
