Continental 737-900 landing in Houston

2 Continental 737 900 landing in HoustonA Continental Airlines Boeing 737-900 lands on Runway 26L at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston after a flight from Boston on August 30, 2010. The video starts to the east of Lake Houston and continues all the way to Gate E3. In the process, you get the grand tour of IAH’s five terminals working around from A with Air Canada Jazz present, to B with a small army of Continental Express ERJ’s, and the north side of Terminal C with United already moved in awaiting the merger. Terminal D follows with a Lufthansa 747-400 still at the gate, while an Air France 777-300ER has just pushed back, and a British Airways 777-200ER sits on the ramp. Turning the corner, it’s the International Arrivals Building and then Terminal E. Of course, there’s plenty of Continental to be seen, with a Star Alliance 777 and a couple 767-400ER’s. Finally we arrive at the gate, and thus ends the video. Hope you enjoy.

Dallas (HD)

2 Dallas (HD)Dallas is the third-largest city in Texas and the ninth-largest in the United States. As of 2010, the population of Dallas was at 1.4 million according to the US Census Bureau. The city is the largest economic center of the 12-county Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area that according to the March 2010 U.S. Census Bureau release, had a population of roughly 6.5 million as of July 2009. The metropolitan area is the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States.
Founded in 1841 and formally incorporated as a city in February, 1856, the city’s economy is primarily based on banking, commerce, telecommunications, computer technology, energy, and transportation, home to several Fortune 500 companies. Located in North Texas and a major city in the American South, Dallas is the core of the largest inland metropolitan area in the United States that lacks any navigable link to the sea. The city’s prominence arose from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, its position along numerous railroad lines, a strong industrial and financial sector, and its status as a major inland port (due largely to the presence of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, one of the largest and busiest in the world). It was rated as a beta world city by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network.
Dallas’ skyline contains several buildings over 700 feet (210 m) in height. Although some of Dallas’ architecture dates from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, most of the notable architecture in the city is from the modernist and postmodernist eras. Iconic examples of modernist architecture include Reunion Tower, the JFK Memorial, I. M. Pei’s Dallas City Hall and Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Good examples of postmodernist skyscrapers are in Fountain Place, Bank of America Plaza, Renaissance Tower, JPMorgan Chase Tower, and Comerica Bank Tower. Several smaller structures are fashioned in the Gothic Revival style, such as the Kirby Building, and the neoclassical style, as seen in the Davis and Wilson Buildings. One architectural “hotbed” in the city is a stretch of historic houses along Swiss Avenue, which contains all shades and variants of architecture from Victorian to neoclassical. The Dallas Downtown Historic District protects a cross-section of Dallas commercial architecture from the 1880s to the 1950s.
Central Dallas is anchored by Downtown, the center of the city and the epicenter of urban revival, along with Oak Lawn and Uptown, areas characterized by dense retail, restaurants, and nightlife. Downtown Dallas has a variety of named districts, including the West End Historic District, the Arts District, the Main Street District, Farmers Market District, the City Center business district, the Convention Center District, and the Reunion District. “Hot spots” north of Downtown include Uptown, Victory Park, Oak Lawn, Turtle Creek, Cityplace and West Village.

2010 Corpus Christi Flood

2 2010 Corpus Christi FloodCORPUS CHRISTI — A large storm system stemming from Hurricane Karl continues to pound the Coastal Bend, dropping more than six inches of rain in the past 24 hours, flooding streets and halting traffic in some areas.

The city’s Southside had numerous reports of flooding. By 1 p.m., emergency responders reported high water on Airline Road, with flooding between South Padre Island Drive and Holly Road. Reports indicate several cars stranded on Holly Road.

At Weber Road, high water has prevented traffic from crossing near South Padre Island Drive.

Other areas also had reports of high water, including Ocean Drive and low-lying streets in the downtown area. And Brawner Parkway flooded between Ramsey Street and Kostoryz Road, according to reports.

Low-lying areas have seen rivers rise nearly a foot in the past 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service, some inching close to the flood stage. The Nueces River and Oso Creek are two areas that may see flooding in the next few hours, according to meteorologist Christina Barron.

–The Odem-Edroy Independent School District has canceled classes Monday because of the flooding. Classes will resume Tuesday.

–Low water crossings are flooded in and around San Patricio County, according to the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office.

State Highway 188 has been closed from Sinton to U.S. Interstate 37 because of high water, reports indicate. The Texas Department of Transportation has placed barricades on the highway at flooded areas.

–The Regional Transit Authority has announced that all bus routes are suspended due to weather and dangerous road conditions until further notice.

–The Corpus Christi International airport is continuing flights today with few delays reported. Some flights have been bumped back by a few minutes.

One flight from Houston appears to have been delayed on Continental Airlines but there are no cancellations as of 3 p.m., according to the airport website.

–The Corpus Christi YMCA on South Upper Broadway Street has reported it will close effective 3 p.m.

“We’ve got leaks coming in all over the building and for the safety of our employees and members, we’ve decided to close down for the rest of the day until the weather passes,” said Evan Duran, front desk employee at the YMCA.

–Reports indicate that U.S. Interstate-37 is flooded at Carbon Plant Road and a three-car wreck has occurred there which police are responding to.

Police said Agnes Street is currently flooded between South Padre Island Drive and Navigation Boulevard.

“We’re just seeing lots and lots of rain right now,” said Lt. Ron Ordner who is currently out responding to calls with other officers. “And flooding everywhere.”

–Several streets along Holly Road between South Staples Street and Airline Road have become flooded, reports indicate.

Employees at Beamer’s Pizza and Burgers on South Staples Street near Holly Road say people have been coming in all morning to avoid the roads.

“We’ve had a lot of customers come in and say the streets are really bad out there,” said Katelynne Burns, Beamer’s Pizza and Burgers employee.

“One lady has just been camping out because she can’t leave to go to her mother’s house.”

–Texas Department of Transportation officials have closed the following roads:

Nueces County; FM 666, between CR 30 and CR 36; and FM 2826, between CR 81 and 85.

Kleberg County; FM 1717 between FM 2619 and end of county line; FM 772 West for two miles and

FM 1118 between US 77 and FM 2619.

Refugio County; FM 1360 from FM 2511 to FM 13; FM 629 from FM 136 to FM 3037; at the intersection of SH 35 and FM 774; and

FM 774 at road marker 582.
