Do you think Houston’s Intercontinental Airport should have been named after George Bush?

Personally, I think it’s a bit egocentric for the former president to have a major international airport named for him. Naming large landmarks (such as airports) after people is usually only done posthumously; in this instance the former president has breached etiquette by having it named after him while he is still living. Besides, he wasn’t even a great president anyway.

A bit selfish if you ask me. But I guess it doesn’t matter much, since people will never refer to IAH as "George Bush Intercontinental Airport". It is (and always will be) known simply as "Intercontinental". The same way that people will call National Airport as "National Airport". Nobody’s ever going to call it "Reagan National" for heaven’s sake.

Your opinion has been noticed and noted.

The City of Houston named the airport after the former president. Why? Because of the recognition he brought the city during and after his presidency. The G7 Summit was held here. The ‘92 Republican convention was held here. The two aforementioned items happened during the Bush 41 presidency. He and Barbara moved here after he left office. The proposal to rename the airport was spearheaded by Democrat Bob Lanier. Considering all George Bush the elder has done for Houston and Texas, yes, I do think the airport renaming was appropriate.

In what way is this egocentric? In what way is it selfish?

By the way, people call the airport "Bush" more often than not. I get funny looks when I say "Intercontinental" same as I do when I properly pronounce San Fillipee instead of San Félipe. Oh, and the airport in DC is called Reagan National, even by locals.

Do you think the same way about Hobby Airport or do you call that one Houston Municipal?

what time does starbucks open in IAH Bush airport in Houston Texas?

Im chillin in the airport right now…. fun stuff…

Is 2 hours and 45 minutes a long enough connection at IAH if the flights are on separate tickets?

I bought an international ticket from Houston (IAH) to Amsterdam (AMS), flying Continental. But, now I don’t live in Houston, so I bought a separate, domestic ticket to get to IAH, also on Continental. Because the flights are on separate tickets, I will have to reclaim my luggage, go to Continental’s front desk in another terminal, check in for the second flight, and recheck my luggage. Then, on to security and the the final gate. Is 2 hours and 45 minutes enough time to do all this at IAH? I arrive in IAH at noon on a Saturday. Thanks a lot.

You don’t have to reclaim your bags. At the ticket counter from your originating airport going to Houston, tell them you are on two different itineraries, and the ticket counter agent can combine both of them and check your bags all the way through. This way, you also don’t have to pay the fee for checking your bags since your whole itinerary will be to an international destination. Your bags will be checked all the way through to Amsterdam, and you will be given both boarding passes from wherever you are starting from.

The above is the most convenient way to go. However, if you really feel like doing it the way you described, 2 hours 45 minutes would be plenty of time to claim your bags and re-check them in. Remember though, they will charge you for your bags for your first leg if you don’t combine the itineraries.
